Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Tracking Animals in Winter at Rowe Camp and Conference Center

Location:
Rowe Camp and Conference Center, 22 King's Highway, Rowe, MA 01367

Join nationally known wildlife ecologist and tracker, Susan Morse, of Keeping Track, as we learn about our region’s “wildest wildlife”, including black bear, bobcat, moose, river otter, mink and fisher.  Indoor slide presentations, illustrated by Sue’s original photography, complemented by field outings,  will introduce how to detect and monitor wildlife.  You will learn how to read evidence left behind by various species of elusive mammals.   In addition to finding and interpreting tracks, we will spend much of our time learning about and practicing science-based methods that enhance our ability to find animal sign in the first place.  Susan is an acknowledged authority on various mammals’ scent-marking behaviors and she will share her original research during our field outings.  Winter is a wonderful time to learn more about the animals that inhabit New England’s forests.  We will visit a variety of habitats and learn from Susan why certain types of habitats are so worthy of conservation.

Registration is being handled by the host of this workshop: Rowe Camp and Conference Center.  Contact them soon because class size is limited.  You will also want to ask them about accommodations, as well as exactly when to arrive, and when the workshop will end on Sunday.  Rowe Center can be reached at (413)339-4954 or  you can click on the link below.  This link will take you to Rowe Center's description of the workshop, and will allow you to register online.
